Malaga Memories

This summer I was lucky enough to have a holiday in Spain. Although I love travelling, this was the first time I had been to Spain in 6 or 7 years. It was nice to go back, and there is a calming familiarity of going back to somewhere you have been to before. I really bloody needed this holiday. The first half of this year was incredibly tough - potentially one of the most testings yet. But when summer rolled around, I really just wanted to relax and leave England behind.
Mike and I rented a wonderful Air BnB in the centre of Malaga. Air Bnb is a great option; better value, freedom and usually completely yours. Ours was a wonderfully authentic apartment, perfectly situated close to the old town, tourist sights and the beach. It featured high ceilings, marble floors, french doors and stunning repurposed furniture. Not to forget the huge double rain shower!

We explored a lot of the Old Town and the majority of the sights. We visited the Picasso Museum which was fascinating - a great timeline of his work and insight into his life. They also had a wonderful exhibition of how Picasso's work has influenced a plethora of artists and left a legacy, which was really interesting.

We explored Alcazaba; a palatial fortification built by the Hammudid dynasty in the early 11th century. It is the best-preserved Alcazaba in Spain. Quite a walk up a hill, I would recommend you do this before midday. At the top, there is a beautifully authentic bar/cafe, where we had the best sangria I have ever tasted. Sat under vines at kaleidoscopic mosaic tables with views out to sea, I honestly couldn't be happier.
Adjacent to the entrance of the Alcazaba are remnants of a Roman theatre dating to the 1st century BC, which were a great visit.

One of the days we spent all day at the beach. After a wonderful breakfast, we relaxed all day with endless glasses of mojitos and sangria. Usually, I am someone who likes doing stuff on holiday, utilising my time exploring rather than frivolously wasting it on a sun lounger. This day was an exception. It was magnificent to soak in the sun and swim together in the sea. We watched the sky turn from blue to pink and the sun dip over the horizon.

I am so thankful for this holiday. It's so important to take time to yourself; to step back from your life and think about nothing but the present... even just for a little while.

All My Love
